I must admit that I dream often of living on a farm. Picking through the garden and hearing the animals stir are just some of the things that I really enjoy. Looking out over fields as they change through the winter, spring, summer and fall displaying the wonders of God’s creation delivers me to a peace of heart and mind.

This time of year is obviously very important in farm life- Harvest. All year the workers plan and maintain the crops trusting that weather will cooperate so the harvest will be abundant. Harvest is the time to reap all the benefits of the past year’s work.

Jesus was very concerned for the harvest as well. His harvest is the harvest of the the souls of men, women, boys and girls. A love for the lost souls of humanity drove Jesus to the cross. Does His passion for soul harvest affect us? Really, does it become important enough to us that we take action?

As we consider our part in the harvest of souls for the kingdom of God, where should we start? Prayer is the starting line for all things in the kingdom of God. In a good relationship with God, we have the ability to understand what He has for us to do, how to do it and when to do it. Matthew 9:37-38 helps us with this very thought, “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.””

Whatever we find ourselves praying for is what has taken priority in our hearts. Let’s make the Great Commission a priority in our prayers as a church and individually. Pray to the Lord of the harvest because we want to reach people for Christ. Pray to the Lord of the harvest because Jesus told us to. Pray to the Lord of the harvest because we want God to use us. With all that we are let’s pray to the Lord of the harvest for the harvest.

Consider this interesting thought as you make plans to pray to the Lord of the harvest:

For according as our desires are, so are our prayers; and as our prayers are, so shall be the grace, and as that is, so shall be the measure of glory. Pray for it as earnestly as you desire it.
Jeremy Taylor, private chaplain to King Charles 1644

We starting seeing a chiropractor a month ago. Being very understanding of our current financial position, he gave us a great deal. Along the way he told me about a job opening at a ink cartridge refilling company. Actually, he thought it would good for Jonathan, but it worked out better for me.

Results bring a kind of validation I guess. When you work towards a goal and see the affects begin to roll out it makes you get more excited for the possibilities of the future. So here’s to a few more sales this month, even little ones.

I finally polished off a long time dream of publishing an Online Christian Marriage Seminar.

I finally did it! There have been a few things in life that I have really wanted to do that have always been in the “someday” category. Do you have things like that?

My dad was good about having several things to do “someday” Sadly, he died and most of them were unfinished. It was just a few months after he died that told Dawn that I did not want to wait anymore. I needed to finish something.

So I did. Today, I finished and put an Online Christian Marriage Seminar for sale. It’s not had a great response, but it’s there. What a tremendous weight lifted, and what a sense of accomplishment.

Take a dream or two of yours that’s been stuck in the background somewhere, and see what you can do to finish it off. Don’t be afraid of finishing it. If your anything like me there’s still more to do!

They say that great things come in small packages, but I have a little blessing that came in a big package. It might be little to some, but it’s actually awesome to me.

For years I have lived without a garage. The only one I ever had was in Florida, and I had to much stuff at the time to actually use it for a vehicle. Living in Canada would have been a great place to have a garage, but the house did not have one. There were many a cold, cold days that I wished over and over again that I had one.

Now, here in Tennessee, I finally have one. Of course I have more stuff and people in the house than there were in Florida, but I keep my van in the garage. What a blessing. It doesn’t even get dreadfully cold here like Canada, but it’s still the coolest thing to me.

The Ayers family tradition is to not have any room in your garage because of collecting too much stuff. My dad had so much stuff in the garage that there was only a path from the front door to the back and part way down the other side. Since he has died, my mom likes to keep the garage for the car. I’m proud of her, and of me. I still have the room. I’m not just proud though, I’m thankful even though it really is a small thing.

What to do in times of struggle.

Sometimes when it rains, it pours.

The last few weeks have had their share of difficulty. My wife has had health problems unlike she has ever had in the past. First she had what doctors called gastritis for about three to four weeks. Just when that seemed to be taming down, she had a bad infection in a back tooth. That problem took an oral surgeon to fix. A few days later she found a lump on her neck which concerned doctors enough to send her to Nashville for a biopsy. Oh, and in the midst of all of this our van wouldn’t start and needed a costly repair.

Stuff happens. You’ve probably had days or weeks like this too. It’s times like this that your faith in God really gets tested. Thankfully, each incident has worked out, although we are still waiting to hear about the biopsy from her thyroid.

What should we do when problems like this mount?

1) Keep doing what is right- Don’t give up on doing the right things just because it gets harder.

2) Keep believing- God id still who he says he is even though it might be hard to see him at the moment.

3) Lean on the help of others- God puts people into our lives to help us through tough times.

4) Pray for the learning- Hardship is one of the best teachers. I often ask God for the lessons in the midst of it.

5) Find a way to laugh- Laughter is a great medicine. Take a break from the analyzing of the problems and go do something fun.

Keep looking up! Good times always come around again.

Let me know what you do to get through difficult times. Put your comments in below.

Christ Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Spring Hill Tennessee- The Church is the People

The Journey begins.

Over the last three years or so the desire has grown in me to start a new church or to start with a small church that would be ready to grow as to who they are as the people of Christ.

My family left a very good church, that was filled with adventure, on Prince Edward Island, in Canada on May 30th, 2009 to see where God would lead us. We were able to go live with family for almost five months during which I spent some time writing about themes that mean the most to me and attempting to develop something that will help Christian marriages.

At the same time, we were connecting with District Superintendents across the US about church openings. Many different opportunities came up, but none really panned out for one reason or another. The whole time, though, our hearts were drawn to the state of Tennessee.

Our connection was finally made in October in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The church that only started a few years ago, and had been doing well is now needing a new start. Ten to fifteen people still gather for worship, and still have a desire to be used by God to make a difference in their community.

So our path and theirs join. We are all anxious to see how God will work in us and through us in Spring Hill and beyond.

This page will note this journey- why I wanted to start with a small group, the history and present, the areas we will focus on, our victories, our failures, the glories of the living God still at work in His church in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Check out my new blog for Christ Chapel Church at – Christ Chapel Church
